Edrx's page on TeX and LaTeX

This page is very obsolete!

(This is just a stub at the moment, sorry - 2007oct17)

I discovered very recently (to my shock and horror - but that's just because I have a 300dpi printer) that the default for dvips, dvipdf and pdflatex nowadays is to use Type1 fonts (BlueSky) whenever possible. This makes the pd/pdf output more scalable, but uglier - and lighter, and it makes bold fonts more similar to normal fonts...

I am trying to discover how to make dvips use metafont by default. Hints welcome...

The old page (very old):

Some of my tools:

  • My e-scripts on Tex.
  • eelatex, a version of eev to typeset TeX chunks embedded in a text file. See my notes on Emacs.
  • I wrote a short program in Icon to make it easier to typeset deduction trees. It converts files with trees drawn in beautiful ascii art into ugly stuff that TeX understands; for example, this becomes this and this becomes this (and the first screenshot at my Emacs page shows how a TeX chunk with embedded deduction trees appers at my screen). I used this program a lot in my thesis and never quite had the nerve to document it... if you plan to use it you will certainly need some other files from my home machine, and will also need to contact me for explanations.
  • My first Tcl/Tk program was something to edit the diagrams that appear on my thesis... Here it is: diaglib.014. Here is a file with the code for the actual diagrams; I use the function eediag-bounded (bounded to F3) to launch a diagram into ee.
  • An e-script on using testfont.tex.
  • Notes on using some TeX docs, including an online copy of the TeXBook...
