Referee report about the paper ``Lua in \TeX''

\bigskip

The abstract says that the article is ``not aimed at \TeX{} users'',
but the text of the article has so many parts that only make sense to
\TeX/\LaTeX{} users that I think that this is incorrect --- it makes
more sense to think that the article was written for \TeX/\LaTeX{}
users who know very little about ConTeXt. I will write this referee
report considering this adjustment to its target audience.

The article is very interesting but it has a few (mostly unimportant)
typos and several stylistic choices that I think that need to be
either justified clearly, or changed, or both.

\medskip

Here are the typos that I found:

In p.4: ``text in from'' --- should that be ``text in front''?

In p.5: ``sub engine'' --- should be ``subengine''

In p.20: ``To the poin,t'' --- should be ``To the point,''

\medskip

The author has decided to keep many names in lowercase, including some
that have canonical capitalizations --- here are some examples: web,
pdf, xml, markdown, dvi, ctan, ffi. I suggest either fixing that or
explaining the rationale for that.

The version of the article that I received does not have a proper
bibliography. I would be nice to have one, and also a convention ---
maybe a special font --- for names of packages that are difficult to
find by a simple web search but that are easy to find if we add
``CTAN''; two examples are Aleph and NTS. Also, on p.2 there is a
reference to ``web Pascal'' and ``the C variant''; it would help the
readers to point out that their standard names are WEB and CWEB, and
that they are CTAN packages.

The section 1.9, ``Coding documents'', would be much more useful to
readers without any experience with ConTeXt if it included
instructions for testing the snippets. The first three snippets ---
``The rain in Spain'', the one with ``context.startitemize'', and the
one with ``draw fullcircle scaled 2cm'' --- just need to be saved as
1.tex, 2.tex, and 3.tex, and then compiled with `context 1.tex',
`context 2.tex', and `context 2.tex'; I couldn't adapt the other
snippets to make them produce output in a PDF file. My suggestion ---
as a beginner --- is to include a reference to ``A not so short
introduction to ConTEXt Mark IV'', by Joaquín Ataz-López, and point to
some of its sections.

Similarly, the section 1.14, ``Further reading'', would be more useful
with more precise pointers. I tried to find some its items both in the
wiki at contextgarden.net and at the copy of the ConTeXt distribution
that comes with TeXLive, and failed miserably.
